Tea, so called liquid jade, traveled East to West enriching the lives of all who sipped the exotic brew. If you haven’t time to catch a flight for China, Japan or India, where tea is produced, or even a short hop across the Pond to visit England, the home of afternoon tea or Paris which boasts more tearooms than London, this tour is for you.
You’ll visit a famed European chocolatier to sample delectable treats infused with tea and nibble a macaroon, the pastry traditionally served at a fashionable French tea party called Le fiveo’clock. Next, we’re off to a Japanese confectionery shop to marvel at the wagashi artfully formed like fruit or flowers. These sweets are typically eaten before consuming a cup of green tea. The group will also have an opportunity to shop for over 40 varieties of loose tea from around the world as well as Asian and European tea wares including vintage tea linens, sterling silver accoutrements, elegant bone china, enamelware, and decorative accessories. Shopping is thirsty work, but you'll end your tour enjoying a full afternoon tea in one of New York’s most elegant tea salons.
Elizabeth will delight the group, over tea, with stories about the history and lore of afternoon tea and high tea. She’ll also answer your questions about how and where tea is produced, how to buy and store tea as well as provide brewing and etiquette tips. Afternoon tea usually lasts about an hour and a half, but many guests like to linger a little longer to chat with their new tea friends.
Locations will vary depending upon the size of your group and day of the week. You will be given the destination when you book your group's reservation.
